From Novice to Master in just two years!

The Literary Arts Academy at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts is excited to announce that we are officially a Master Status Academy! All students enrolled in the Creative Writing Department at DA are also enrolled in the Literary Arts Academy. This provides our students with an incredible array of opportunities such as field trips, guest artist visits, equipment and software related to digital media and publishing, and more! Some quick stats about our academy:

- 83% of students enrolled in Foundations of Journalism are WordPress Certified Editors

- 92% of students enrolled in Media Production are WordPress Certified Editors

- Our student publication, Élan, has been recognized as FIRST CLASS two years in a row through the NCTE REALM Awards

- Our students regularly place in local, regional, and national competitions

- Our CTSO— the Literary Arts Honor Society— develops community projects around youth literacy

We are so thankful to our community stakeholders at UNF for providing necessary context to the work we do, Ms. Hyder for getting the ball rolling on our CTE Academy, Mr. Steinhardt for providing necessary academic context for the work we do, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Damiani for providing much needed guidance and support throughout the accreditation process, our parent booster organization without whom many of these student experiences could not be possible, and most importantly, to our former Department Chair, Ms. Melanson, for laying an incredible foundation of excellence.
